I was born in the town of Werneck, near Schweinfurt, in 1960, and I initially began my musical career as a guitarist. Following early breaks at the "Youth Musicians" music competition, I discovered my love for the bassoon and soon thereafter started with my musical studies: guitar major with Prof. Dieter Kirsch and bassoon major with Prof. Eberhard Buschmann at the music academy in Würzburg. After the final exams, I undertook further training (in bassoon) with Prof. Alfred Rinderspacher at the music academy in Mannheim.

Since 1984, I have been resident principal bassoonist at the Philharmonic Orchestra for the Mainfranken Theatre at Würzburg. In addition, I greatly enjoy playing chamber music with my Ensemble Spieltrieb (2 clarinettes, bassoon, and piano), that I founded in 1998. During my orchestral years, I focused more and more on the craft of reed-making, and have learnt a great deal about this field from Günter Blahuschek (from the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra). These days, I offer my own training courses in reed-making: including individual classes for students (on request), and group classes for music schools or interested private groups.
